The Widows Project

The Plight of Widows in India
In India, the rights of vulnerable and oppressed communities are woefully upheld and are, generally, totally ignored. The wave of violations and persecutions against these marginalized classes has immensely deteriorated their status & weakens their individuality. The ruling class has been and continues governing the life and livelihoods of these miserable people for many years. Hopelessness and depression are widespread i attitudes of the whole society, but widespread among widows. The collective problems of the society have enhanced the individual problems of those who are already vulnerable and fragile such as the widows of India. The common problems faced by the society are poverty, inflation, unemployment, low wages, unhygienic environment conditions, etc. are even more damaging to the health, spirit, and soul of these widows in India.
The team of CBF Mission has a deep compassion for the plight of various marginalized groups. Our team identified that the adversities and problems of the widows are very intense. They need particular attention with aid of both body and mind, and in the assertion of their fundamental rights and freedoms. The deep insight of the CBF Mission team upon the situation of widows revealed that the respect, status, and individuality of the widows are in danger.
After the death of the husbands, the family members sometimes behave wickedly with them and force them to leave their children and homes. The family members often abuse them by calling them derogatory names, and also publicly refer to them as a “Curse on our family!”. In some cases, they face physical and sexual violence even in their own home. This is the general attitude of their closest family members towards them. The behavior of the society is also very hurting and discriminatory towards them. The unsheltered widows face social boycotts under which the people cease to help, assist, protect and even talk to them. Likewise, the participation of the widows in social and religious and religious festivals is considered as desecration. Due to such superstitious beliefs and behaviors, the formation of stereotypical norms against the widows has been increasing. The prevalence of the above-mentioned attitudes against the vulnerable widows has created severe burdens in their lives.
Other serious issues for the widows, after being physically removed from their own house, include how to earn a livelihood for sustaining their basic needs with food, clothing, and medical care. Among the unsheltered widows, a majority of them are uneducated and unskilled which limits their ability to work. As a homeless person,
they are in a greater danger of being exploited by others.
Proposed Solution to the Problem:
Regarding the solution to their problems, the CBF Mission shall provide shelter for their security, educate and advocate for them about their rights regarding their most urgent issues.
